Name: Clown For All Workshop w/ Julia VanderVeen
Date: April 1, 2023
Time: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM EDT
Event Description:
Goshen Theater Education Department and GoProv Productions are excited to bring "Clown For All" taught by Julia VanderVeen to Goshen Theater. Join us on April 1, 2023, from 10-4PM! To be a clown is to be more human. As we grow up, we become socialized to hide the ways in which we are the most human, the most vulnerable, and the most beautiful. We begin to believe that if we hide our vulnerability, then the world cannot hurt us, but we lose some of ourselves in the process. The work of rediscovering your clown is the process of embracing your vulnerability and embracing the parts of you that are most interested in pleasure and in fun. In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to set your big adult brain and obligations aside, and to give more value to your clown and to play. How do we do this? We begin by getting out of our heads and into our bodies. From there, we will explore with curiosity, and let our curiosity lead us to surprising places. When we see people really playing to the best of their ability, their huge appetite for pleasure is where we see their clown begin to peek out. Julia VanderVeen is from Asheville, North Carolina, and has lived in the NYC area for a decade. Her award-winning solo clown show, My Grandmother’s Eyepatch, was co-written and directed by world-renown clown and teacher, Aitor Basauri. Julia has toured My Grandmother’s Eyepatch both nationally and internationally to great acclaim. Julia trained and apprenticed with Master clown teacher Christopher Bayes at Juilliard, the Yale School of Drama, and at his private studio in Brooklyn. She resides in NJ, next to the Passaic River, with her husband, her two cats, and her ambitious plant collection. Registrations will be limited! There is the possibility that a second workshop will be added on Sunday, April 2, 2023, from 10-4PM should the first workshop fill up!
