Name: LaCasa's Help-A-House
Date: May 14, 2016
Time: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM EDT
Event Description:
LaCasa, the City of Goshen, and the Goshen community are gearing up for the 26th annual Help-A-House Community Work Day, taking place on May 14. This spirited event brings together over 200 local volunteers to assist homeowners, and help improve Goshen properties and neighborhoods. Local contractors volunteer their time and expertise to lead crews of caring community members, as they tackle projects like roof and window replacements, weatherization, landscaping and beautification, painting, demolition, etc. Volunteers of all skill levels make important contributions. This year, eight grateful Goshen home owners will benefit from Help-A-House. Additionally, crews will tackle important projects on aging and dilapidated properties that LaCasa has acquired for the purpose of restoration and future housing. Volunteers wield shovels, hammers, paint brushes, crow bars, and more with the expert guidance of experienced crew leaders. LaCasa invites community members to consider participating in this rewarding event. Volunteers are well fed. The day starts with a pancake breakfast by the Exchange Club at St. Mark?s United Methodist Church from 7:00 ? 8:00. At the work sites, they enjoy Dutch Maid donuts for break, lunch from Papa John?s, Pizza Hut, South Side Soda Shop, Jimmy John?s, Mancino?s, or Subway, and an afternoon break of Dairy Queen Dilly Bars. Community members who are interested should contact Kate Irelan at 574-533-4450 x17 or kate.irelan@lacasainc.net by Friday, May 6. Other volunteer opportunities are available at LaCasa year-round. For the 16th consecutive year, State Farm is Help-A-House?s lead sponsor. State Farm agent Scott Roth is a Help-A-House crew leader, heading up work on The Little House that Ben Built. Help-A-House would not be possible without State Farm?s dedicated support, or that of key sponsors, including the Community Foundation of Elkhart County, the Fidler Family Fund, Interra Credit Union, IU Health Goshen Hospital Foundation, Lake City Bank, and NIPSCO. Many other local businesses and individuals provide additional financial support for this event. LaCasa welcomes community donations and interested businesses and individuals are invited to contact Chris Kingsley at 574-533-4450 x16 or chris.kingsley@lacasainc.net.
