Quality, safety in endoscopy recognized at Goshen Health
GOSHEN, Ind., January 16, 2019 – Goshen Health recently earned the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy's (ASGE) Award of Excellence through the ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program.
The distinction recognizes the commitment by Goshen Health GI specialists to provide high-quality, safe endoscopic care.
Goshen Health is the only endoscopy provider in north central Indiana to receive the certification. It is among more than 400 endoscopy units in the U.S. to meet rigorous criteria set by ASGE, a leading gastrointestinal medical society.
“We are committed to the highest standards of safety and quality,” said Randy Christophel, Goshen Health President and Chief Executive Officer. “This certification recognizes that our GI team meets stringent standards of excellence in endoscopy.”
Criteria to receive the three-year certification include following ASGE guidelines on clinical training and ongoing education, quality assurance, sterilization and infection control.
“The level of training and skill required for ASGE certification makes a difference in protecting patients from cancer,” said Ross Heil, DO, Gastroenterologist.
GI specialists at Goshen Health have demonstrated high rates of detection and removal of precancerous growths or polyps. High quality endoscopic procedures, including colonoscopies and upper endoscopies, lower risk for developing cancers of the esophagus, stomach and colon.
