Press Conference for opening of new Ernestine M. Raclin House
Community leaders to speak
MISHAWAKA, IN – The Hospice Foundation is hosting a press conference at Center for Hospice Care’s (CHC) newest inpatient facility – the Ernestine M. Raclin House – located on our Mishawaka Campus at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19th. We invite members of the media to join us as we welcome Carmi Murphy and Mayor David Wood of Mishawaka to speak about the development of Center for Hospice Care’s Mishawaka campus and how this has impacted Mishawaka.
As a family representative of the project’s key donor, Ernestine M. Raclin, Murphy will offer remarks from a personal as well as professional perspective on the opening of the new 12-bed inpatient unit. Mayor Wood will speak to the valued partnership between the City of Mishawaka and Center for Hospice Care on this project as well as the tremendous impact it has on the community. In addition, Mark Murray, President/CEO of Center for Hospice Care and Hospice Foundation, and Mike Wargo, Chief Operating Officer of the Hospice Foundation, will be on hand to provide details of the project.
Members of the media are welcome to stay for a dedication ceremony immediately following the press conference. The ceremony will include a ribbon cutting with the South Bend Regional Chamber of Commerce as well as brief program involving key members of the project and representatives from the Mishawaka/South Bend region. The event will also celebrate the successful culmination of the Hospice Foundation’s 5-year “Cornerstones for Living: The Crossroads Campaign” which raised over $13.4 million. Guests will enjoy food from Navarre Catering & Events, beverages and self-guided tours of the facility.

About the Ernestine M. Raclin House:
One of the key priorities of the Hospice Foundation’s recent “Cornerstones for Living: The Crossroads Campaign” was construction of the new 12-bed inpatient unit along the scenic St. Joseph River. Thanks to the generosity of Ernestine M. Raclin, who provided the transformative gift for the project, this inpatient unit has become a reality. The goal of the facility is to provide compassionate, specialized care in a warm, home-like setting. Each spacious patient room has a beautiful view of the St. Joseph River and offers comfortable seating for visiting family and friends. Other amenities include a sunroom, family kitchen and multiple gathering areas, as well as designated rooms for visiting children and teens and spiritual reflection.

Center for Hospice Care is a community-based, non-profit organization that works to improve the quality of living through hospice, home health, grief counseling and community education. Since 1980, Center for Hospice Care has kept its promise that no one eligible for hospice services in their nine-county service area will be turned away due to their inability to pay. The Hospice Foundation supports CHC’s mission by advancing projects, raising funds and creating educational programming that improve the quality of living in the communities we serve.
