4,300 Students Will Test-Drive Careers
Goshen, Ind. Horizon Education Alliance (HEA) today announced career exploration days happening in Elkhart County this week. Forty businesses will provide a hands-on, career exploration experience for nearly 4,300 students. The program is part of HEA's larger effort, called Student Pathways, to build partnerships between business and education. The seventh through ninth grade students represent schools in Elkhart, St. Joseph, and Marshall counties.
"We're very excited to offer this unprecedented hands-on event showcasing local career options in manufacturing, construction, healthcare and IT sectors," said Breanna Allen, Pathways Coordinator for HEA. "We believe it is critically important to inspire kids early on to think ahead about what career options are available in their home communities."
The event will take place at CENTER six one five, 2707 Co Rd 15, Elkhart, IN 46514
Members of the press are welcome to attend the event either Wednesday or Thursday, April 17 - 18, between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to interview business participants and educators about the program. HEA Director of Communications, Dorothy Shirk, will be available on site to facilitate any interviews.
The event is sponsored by HEA and St. Joseph and Marshall counties and supported by funding through the Indiana Department of Workforce Development Skill UP Indiana! grant awarded to the South Bend | Elkhart Region Innovation Network in 2018. The purpose of the Skill UP Indiana! grant program is to develop Indiana's workforce for the jobs of tomorrow.
