SUMMARY:Wake Up\, Goshen
DESCRIPTION:A few years ago\, the citizens of Indiana passed a constitutional amendment that established property tax caps. With the recession\, the cap has significantly impacted local government taxing units. This year the Indiana General Assembly considered elimination of the business personal property tax. The elimination of this tax would have resulted in and 18% cut in income for local taxing districts. The Chamber\, along with the City of Goshen\, Elkhart County government\, other chambers\, and taxing districts opposed this legislation with replacement revenue. The Indiana General Assembly did not eliminate the business personal property tax\, but did provide some local options. They also established a study committee to look deeper into this issue. Because this impacts local businesses and services of local governments\, we urge you to attend this installment of Wake-Up Goshen and be a part of the discussion of how best to address this important issue.
