SUMMARY:Midwinter Lecture: An Urban Forestry Plan for Greencroft
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this FREE lecture! During the late summer of 2022\, several Greencroft residents volunteered to inventory the trees growing on the Greencroft (Goshen) campus. This effort grew out of an interest in providing the campus with adequate forested canopy for the coming decades of warming due to climate change. The information the volunteers collected has been added to the larger City of Goshen tree inventory and can become the basis for a long-term plan for growing and maintaining more trees at Greencroft. More trees equal more benefits! Aaron Sawatsky-Kingsley says the most exciting thing about him is that he has not rolled very far from the apple tree\, even though the rest of his family have been world travelers. His curiosity remains largely satisfied here\, in Elkhart County\, where he was born\, and in Goshen\, where he has been the city forester for 16 years. Recently his daughter asked him how he can still like trees so much. He thought about it for a moment\, then replied\, "Probably the same reason I keep liking you so much."
