Celebrating the Heart of our Hospice Volunteers

April 17, 2018
In Honor of National Volunteer Week April 15-21, 2018 Celebrating the Heart of our Hospice Volunteers To celebrate the vital role that volunteers play in providing compassionate care, Center for Hospice Care (CHC) will host a Volunteer Recognition Luncheon on Tuesday, April 18. Please join us in honoring the 2018 John E. Krueger, MD, Hospice Caring Award recipient and our volunteers. This event recognizes those volunteers who share their time and talents to make sure that people in our community who are at the end of life’s journey find comfort, support and peace so that they can live every moment of life to the fullest. A highlight of the luncheon is the awarding of the John E. Krueger, MD, Hospice Caring Award. The John E. Krueger, MD, Hospice Caring Award was initiated in 1994 and awarded to the man whose name it bears for his years of devoted volunteer service. John E. Krueger, MD passed away February 15, 2015 at the age of 93. He was compassionate and conscientious, loving, generous and kind. He led a purposeful life of service. This award is given annually to a volunteer who exemplifies his commitment. The 2018 recipient is Becky Donahue, a 21-year volunteer from the Plymouth area. Becky was nominated by staff this year, and in past years as well. Becky has worked many hours as a Home Patient Volunteer. She is always positive, dependable, flexible and believes in the hospice philosophy. Though she has been a volunteer for 21 years, in the last 6 years of recordable hours, she has completed over 730 hours of home patient care and driven over 2,800 miles for Center for Hospice Care. This is all during the months of May-December, as her job as a tax professional allows her to be available for service 8 months a year. Tara Minix, Volunteer Coordinator, sums it up best when she says, “Becky is a wonderful volunteer who is always willing to give any time she has available to service our patients. She is dependable, flexible and always eager to help, no matter the time or the distance. She is extremely loyal to our organization as shown through her years of dedicated service. She is a wonderful asset to our patients and organization, and it is a pleasure to work with her.” Other Center for Hospice Care volunteers receiving special recognition include:
