Wake Up, Goshen
Wake Up Goshen set for Thursday, September 15 with Special Guest Morton Marcus
In the early 90's, famed economist Morton Marcus was a guest of the Goshen Chamber for our Annual Meeting. He spoke on the community, workforce, and potential for the area. We have invited him back to see how far we have come, what challenges maybe ahead, and where we might be going. So join us on Thursday, September 15th at Greencroft Senior Center at 7:30am for this special update from the syndicated columnist himself, Morton Marcus.
Morton J. Marcus is the former director of the Indiana Business Research Center in the Kelley School of Business. He has been actively involved in local and state economic development efforts since 1970.
In addition to teaching economics at Indiana University for 33 years, Mr. Marcus advised six Indiana governors on taxation and economic development. None of his advice has been taken. He even has been a consultant to the Economic Development Corporation of Elkhart County.
Morton writes a popular weekly column for 20+ Indiana newspapers including the Goshen News. A native of Brooklyn (NY), Morton has earned degrees in Economics from Roosevelt University (Chicago), Washington University (St. Louis) and the University of California (Los Angeles).

Family Business Succession - Not for the Faint of Heart
Do you have the cart before the horse? Are you attempting to plan for ownership transfer of your family business before you have dealt with the difficult question of how the business will be managed? Succession is actually made up of two components: management succession and ownership succession. In the presentation, you will learn the top challenges that face businesses and families as they transition ownership. Current owners will learn how to appropriately fill roles that will be vacated by their retirement. Next generation owners will learn how to propel the process along. Join other family businesses as we explore how to get the horse in front of the cart and what potholes to avoid once the horse is where it belongs.
Come hear our guest speaker, Ms. Barbara Dartt, DVM, MS, consultant for The Family Business Consulting Group, assisting businesses with succession strategies, long-term planning, management transitions and family governance implementation, as well as other opportunities and challenges unique to family-owned businesses.
